My son worked with Shannon Knight for 2 and a half years. He had delays with speech, some oral aversions, Sensory Processing Disorder, feeding delays and delays with gross and fine motor. He had 3 separate therapists at one time. Miss Shannon came to us as my sons second Speech Therapist specifically for his speech delays. The first one he had was not the right fit for him. When I spoke with our service coordinator she said “I have the perfect person for him”. From the moment Shannon entered my home, I knew she would be wonderful for my son. She was kind, gentle and has a softness about her that makes children feel comfortable with her. A connection between a therapist and their patient/client is extremely important and she has that gift. She also takes the time to make sure they’re getting their needs met and milestones achieved. My son needed just a little longer with his services before starting school. Shannon made sure he was perfectly ready. I myself work in a school with special needs kiddos and I’m pretty familiar with lots of therapies that kids may need. Miss Shannon would be my first and highly recommend first choice when seeking a Speech Therapist.

We have had the pleasure of working with Miss. Shannon for the past 3 years. In the beginning, my son did not have the attention capacity to focus for the entire 30 minutes. Shannon has always been patient and flexible as toddlers can be unpredictable. Shannon was extremely adaptive during virtual sessions and helped keep my son's attention to keep him engaged to get something out of the session. Shannon has been an advocate for my son, requesting additional services that were needed to get him closer to where he should be for his age. Once Shannon was able to resume services at home, my son was so excited he would wait for her in the window. In addition, his intelligibility in that short span grew exponentially. Our family started working with Shannon when our middle child was 2 years old. He was diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss and was not speaking much at all. We used a lot of sign language with him to be able to communicate with him but hoped that he would use his speech more effectively as he grew up.
We started with individual lessons with Shannon. A few months later, we were given an opportunity to join a small group class that she was running. There were five kids that came every week, so it was nice small group size. My son immediately connected with another little girl there. Every week, they looked forward to playing together. He loved going each week and playing. I loved knowing that he was in a safe learning environment.
I saw my son’s speech and language skills skyrocket. Shannon has an amazing way of teaching through play. The kids were learning different speech skills while engaging their minds and bodies. It was a perfect fit.
We continued to work with Shannon for the next two years with our middle son and then she worked with our youngest son for two years as well. We can’t recommend her enough. She is a kind and patient teacher. She lets the kids lead while guiding them. They think they are playing with toys; she knows that they are learning important speech and language skills. She is a genius!
Bonus: We still connect with the little girl and her family from group class. It has been six years now and our families do life together. They are some of our very best friends and we never would have met them if it weren’t for Shannon’s group class.
Shannon has been a gift to our son and our family. When our son started speech services with Shannon, he was 2-years-old and having difficulties verbally communicating. This resulted in frustration and anger outbursts that led to screaming, crying and hitting.
Our son connected with Shannon very quickly. She was always friendly, energetic and made him feel comfortable and safe to learn, grow, make mistakes and corrections. Shannon worked closely with our son in-person, however with the Covid-19 Pandemic, their sessions were shifted to be virtual. Even online, Shannon has this amazing way of making our son feel engaged with different games, stories and activities. She also gave him room to facilitate the sessions and he was always happy to tell her stories, show her his toys and play guessing games with her. To our son, it did not feel like learning - it was fun!
Our family relocated last year when our son was 4-years-old. He was re-evaluated after working with Shannon for approximately 2 years. Our son went from virtually being non-verbal to graduating from his IEP and services. He is now entering Kindergarten without requiring speech services/therapy. This is all due to Shannon's commitment to our son.
Shannon has given our son the tools to communicate, but also so much more. She has given our son the confidence to vocalize his needs/wants/feelings, the ability to socialize with peers and the ability to self-regulate his emotions when he is feeling frustrated, angry or upset. Through their sessions, she also prepared him for school by helping him learn his letters and numbers, letter sounds, letter blends, and so much more. The impact that Shannon has made on our son and our family is priceless. We are so thankful to have her in our lives.
